On Wednesday April 8, 2015 the Medway Drug Enforcement Agency was conducting surveillance in the 300 block of South Main Street in Orrville, Ohio. Agents observed Richard “Taco” Phillips, 27 years old, who was known to have an active arrest warrant. The agents requested the Orrville Police Department respond to arrest Phillips. As officers were attempting to arrest Phillips on the warrant he fled and a brief foot pursuit ensued.

As officers and Medway agents were chasing Phillips he was observed tossing on object later discovered to be a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol. Phillips was apprehended by the officers and the weapon was recovered. Further investigation revealed that the recovered pistol was loaded and had been reported stolen from another jurisdiction. Phillips was arrested on the warrant and later transported to the Wayne County Jail. Additional charges for the weapons violations and resisting arrest will be sought.
