For the next 10 days we will highlight the top stories from a very eventful 2017. The stories will range from criminal investigations to recognition for outstanding performance. So without further adieu, here we go:

10: Aggravated Robbery with Pursuit

On Wednesday November 1st, Officer Adam Moss was on patrol on Hostetler Road near Matthew Drive when he passed a 1997 Toyota Corolla that was just reported stolen. The suspect in the theft was reported to be armed with a pistol.

Moss activated his emergency lights and turned around to stop the car. At that point the chase was on. The stolen Corolla accelerated up Matthew Drive to an area that is closed off with barricades. The stolen car veered around the barricades off road on the south side of the street and then back on the street heading west on Willow Way. The cruiser Moss was driving became disabled at this point and it looked like the suspect would get away.

Freddy Guards Scene

K9 Freddie guards the area where the suspect in a car theft was reported to be on foot after abandoning the stolen car.

Undeterred, Officer Moss jumped out of his cruiser, grabbed his patrol rifle and began chasing the car on foot!

The suspect drove the stolen vehicle to a residence on Dogwood Drive and abandoned it, fleeing east toward Apple Blossom, which was back toward Officer Moss. Moss saw the suspect run between two houses and into the wooded area behind the Orrville Christian Church.

As a precaution, the Orrville School district was placed on lockdown due to the proximity to the schools.

K-9 Freddy was summoned to the scene to track the individual. With assistance from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the suspect was eventually located and arrested and the stolen vehicle recovered.
